You may be suprised to know that there are now over 350 million vegetarians (and rising) worldwide. Millions of people are becoming more attune to the fresh taste and beneficial effects of plants. What we eat can either contribute to a healthy lifestyle or a road down illness' and health problems. Eating plenty and I mean plenty of plants such as fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds that are rich in fiber, omegas, and nutrients can truly nourish our bodies inside out. Eating plenty of rich raw foods have healing, and cleansing effects to our bodies. It vitalizes and alkalize our bodies which rids of virus that can deplete our immune system.
Vegetarianism fall into multiple categories and are presented to and by people in various ways. No matter how you define vegetarians one things for sure, loads of plants are involved in the consumption process. So yes we are all plant eaters at heart. And yes we do have a kind of diet and food preference that we add on to our liking. Each one with its own nutritional values that allows us to stay healthy. There is no need to categorize yourself. Just simply nourish yourself with plants and plenty of it. But heck for the sake of it. Lets look into the different kinds of approach to vegetarianism. I say approach because many vegetarians have began to eat one type of way and seemingly over the years their approach to food changes. That is why even though veganism may not be something that fits you at first, needless to say many vegetarians have turned vegan.
1. Flexitarian or Semi-vegetarians
This type of approach is growing popularity here in North America and as some may call “vegetarians who sometimes eat meat.” A diet that consist of going meatless every other day or week. Flexitarians eat seafood, and poultry, cutting out red meat completely. As some may have heard of the growing trend on Meatless Monday its safe to say, that many, if not all of us have gone this route as a way to cut calories, save money and eat healthier.
2. Ovo-Lacto vegetarians
As a I began my transition to a more vegan lifestyle I first started off as an Ovo-lacto vegetarian.
The word “ovo” means egg and “lacto” as in lactose products (dairy). This approach eliminates all types of meat such fish, poulty, and any type of seafood including animal broths. Daily meals contains vegetables, fruits, nuts, milk, eggs, and other dairy products.
3. Lacto-Vegetarian
People with allergies and or sensitivities to eggs and seafood tend to revert to this lifestyle. This type of approach avoids meat, eggs, fish, and other types of seafood. Consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, beans & legumes, nuts, seeds, milk and milk products.
4. Sea-vegetarian/Sea-terians
Many vegetarians have started out consuming only food that came from water otherwise known as seafood, as a way to derive omegas and nutriments that can be found only in fish. This approach is usually compared to a flexitarians, eliminating all land animals except fish and other types of seafood.
5. Vegan
Some say veganism is one of the strictest vegetarian diet because of its plant-based approach eliminating any animal or animal by-products. Many find this challenging due to nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin b12. A vegan diet includes vegetables, fruits, grains, beans and legumes, seeds , soy, tofu and nuts. Vegans do not eat meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, dairy, milk or milk based food, animal by products such as butter, or broth, honey, leather, silk, wool and personal animal- by products such as cosmetics and soaps. Vegan is strictly plant-based.
6. Raw vegan
Uncooked, organic or natural locally grown food. The raw lifestyle. No need for pots or an assortment cutlers. This type of lifestyle needs no cooking,or heating. What you eat is pure, 100% vitalizing fruit and vegetables. What I would say is one of the most optimizing, self indulging, food for the soul. This approach leans to natural, locally grown and /or organic produce, avoiding all GMO products and consuming a greater amount of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds daily.
7. Fruitarian
The name says it all. Fruit lovers have long to extend itself apart from the raw vegetarian lifestyle. A new kind of new for all the sweet tooth and chasers of sappy fruits. All I can say is that we are all fruitarian by nature. And well for those who have never heard, fruitarians have long thrived from consuming fruits as its main diet as far as time go back. And now they have made a name to themselves. Frutitarian is an extension and mixture of the vegan and vegan raw approach. Eliminating all kinds of animal protein or by-product, as well as seafood, vegetables and nuts. A daily dosage of fruits and plenty of fruits is all thats needed.
