Many of us have bump into this question every-time we've tried to go vegan. Why go vegan? Oh Why oh why am I going vegan, again?
That question that always hinders your mind whenever you see someone pigging out on saucy teriyaki chicken wishing it was you or whenever someone is chowing down salads and fruits for lunch wishing that was you eating something healthy. Wishing is just that simple. Hoping for that miracle that can just automatically turn you into a vegan overnight. Yes we all get full of wishes at times of need.
We all get that feeling at times when veganism just isn't working out. The thought that maybe it is a little too late to go down that path. "Heck I bet vegans learned from young to eat more veggies and fruits, and were trained to by their parents" I once thought, oh boy I was wrong. I underestimated my own capabilities by that simple minded thought.
It became clear to me that I was creating obstacles for myself. Making excuses and looking at it from a past point of view. The first thing that happens when a change occurs in your life is that your perspective to things change. Because I kept seeing myself as a meat eater I kept having issues with cutting out meat and dairy from my diet. Our desires match our basic level of thought or perspective of ourselves.I desired meat because I was still seeing myself as that. I began to see it as something I couldn't have as if I was working against my very own desire. I knew at that point that I had to change my inner perspective in order to recreate my outer. I created my own obstacles and now I'm going to cease it and turn it to an opportunity.
Everything slowed down for me I began to pace myself. Being aware of the good and the poor choices I make everyday when I eat or shop has been beneficial to me. Everything has its own beat and its own rhythm to pace to. Follow yours. Begin at your own speed and you will firsthand reap the benefits of plant-based eating. So why go vegan I question myself one last time? Well there are about a hundred more reason to that answer. I can think of 8 out-loud.
1. ONE DAY, JUST ONE DAY OF A VEGAN DIET YOU,
Save over 4000 Liters of Water, 45 lb of grain, 30 square foot of forested land, 20 lbs of carbon dioxide equivalent and one animals life. This is enough to convince many of you to go cold turkey I bet. The power of choice is within your grasp. So what do you choose?
2. CLEANSE THE BODY, SOUL, EMOTION AND MIND
Plants naturally detoxifies our digestive system, as well as our body, mind and soul. Consuming higher volumes of fruits and vegetables in your diet can bring about natural cleansing, and push out toxin/waste out of the body due to plants high water content. Plants has the ability to support and strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammation. It is a natural cure and contains healing elements.
95% of chemicals, steroids and hormones residues are found in meat and dairy products. This is what I call the sedating effect of meat in our bodies. We loose control of our emotions and well being because our bodies are constantly mollified by toxins and animal hormones.
Ever heard the saying, "food for your soul", a great example of what plants are all about. In order for the body to properly heal we must feed it with nutritious, vitamins enriched food packed with natural sustaining energy. As we heal and cleanse, our body will become more freer, alive and full of energy. We will become more connected with ourselves, with our nature. Our vibrations will raise higher and closer to our inner being.
3. LOWERS THE RISK OF DIS-EASES
According to an article by Vegetarian times, "Why go Veg" A low-fat vegetarian diet is the single most effective way to stop the progression of coronary artery disease or prevent it entirely. Cardiovascular disease kills 1 million Americans annually and is the leading cause of death in the United States. But the mortality rate for cardiovascular disease is lower in vegetarians than in non-vegetarians, says Joel Fuhrman, MD, author of Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss. A vegetarian diet is inherently healthful because vegetarians consume less animal fat and cholesterol (vegans consume no animal fat or cholesterol) and instead consume more fiber and more antioxidant-rich produce—another great reason to listen to Mom and eat your veggies!
To top it all of vegetarians have a lesser chance of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer etc. So why not go vegan. Need I say more.
4. SAVING THE PLANET, AND EVERYTHING IN IT
Land, Water, Air and Animals are being saved just by you choosing to eat plants. Many people have chosen to become vegetarian after hearing the devastating effect that the meat industry have on our planet. The activities from this specific industry have led to heavy pollution in our air and water. Today billions for animals are slaughtered for human consumption, mistreated and killed for food.
On the up side by choosing to go vegan you saves more than 100 animals per year,
5. LOWER BODY WEIGHT
Vegetarians have been found to have smaller waistlines and weigh 20 lbs lighter than meat eaters. The standard western diet relies heavily on meat, cheese and milk for consumption. They are high in fat, calories, cholesterol and are heavily processed for humans to eat. On the other hand eating plant based does not only boost your energy level, you also consume lesser calories, fat and cholesterol. Fewer unwanted fats are stored and more energy is preserved in the body. Due to the higher content of water in fruits and vegetables, your tummy will feel fuller faster and more satisfied than ever before.
6. ENERGY AND TONS OF IT
When food are digested at a faster pace usable energy are preserve. Plant-based eating is tummy friendly. High in fiber, water and nutriments, you can't go wrong eating a fruit. Having more energy allows us to accomplish a lot more without zapping out and crashing. A high nutritional plant based diet consist of food rich in energy such as raw foods and complex carbs.
7. VEGETARIAN, YUM!
You bet! Plant-based dishes are super delicious. Your great-grands won't be able to tell the difference. Talk about imagination! Plant-based eating is the toast of the millennial. Its versatility and creativity are endless. Veggies tuned to meat substitutes and colorful salads and entrees. Who knew veggies and fruits could be so full of life and flavor.
The more colors the better: For Healthy skin and Immune support go for Orange color fruits and veggs, Red are for heart health and vision, Green for detox, White for blood pressure and cholesterol reduction and Purple rich in antioxidants.Go for a rainbow theme the next time you design your plate. Eat Colors for Health.
8. UNCERTAINTY OF MEAT
Meat is uncertain, One cow goes through various process in order for humans to consume it. Slaughter Houses are contaminated with blood feces and other bodily fluids left behind by many of the animals. I can certainly say that unless you live in a suburban meat/dairy farm you were not there to witness the process your food went through before it had reach your plate. Many of us trust our local grocery stores and farmers to provide us with sanitize and contaminant-free food. The truth is uncertainty exist and is inescapable no matter how many preventive steps are taken to stop it from happening. Every year thousands of recalls regarding meat dairy products are publicly broadcast.
According to an article from Vegetarian Times: The CDC reports that food-borne illnesses of all kinds account for 76 million illnesses a year, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths in the United States. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), foods rich in protein such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood are frequently involved in food-borne illness outbreaks.
The consumption of meat/dairy is a growing crisis to our health and well being. We risk harm to our body and danger to our environment every time an animal is killed for food.
Its time to change the world. Its time to go vegan.
